FreeRide Example Solutions:
Telecommuter
| The
Scenario: |
A
switchboard-equipped office, and a telecommuter
in a remote location. |
Normally
an employee who is physically present in the office
would be supplied with a phone connected to one of the
lines of your switchboard (PBX), i.e. an extension.
Using
QTelNet FreeRide components, you can effectively extend
the extension through the Internet, retaining the
same functionality for office and remote worker as if
they were in the same physical location - without toll
charges.

A QTelNet
FreeRide FXO-1301 Gateway is plugged into the line side
of your office PBX (switchboard), where the worker's
local extension would normally terminate. The gateway
is connected via its Ethernet port to broadband Internet
access. Depending on the specifics of the site, this
will typically be a shared resource accessed via the
office network.
The telecommuter
uses a FreeRide IP Telephone. The only required connection
to the phone is for broadband Internet access, perhaps
provided by a cable or DSL modem. Very likely, this
connection would be shared with the worker's PC using
an inexpensive Network Address Translator (NAT) router.
The telecommuter
can now dial other extensions within the main office,
receive or place calls through the main office PBX just
as though they were physically present.
Variations
on a theme:
IP-1302 or IP-2302?
Choose the FreeRide IP-1302 Telephone, for the convenience
of connecting the second line to an analog source
such as the local telco, or the FreeRide IP-2302 IP
Telephone for two IP lines.
FXS + your existing
phone
In place of the IP-x302 Telephone for the teleworker,
you may prefer to use an FXS-1401 gateway connected
to an existing analog telephone.
FXO direct to PSTN
If the local office does not have a switchboard, the
FXO-1301 gateway can be connected directly to a public
telephone line in the local calling district of the
office. Callers simply dial the associated local phone
number to reach the remote teleworker, toll-free.
Telecommuter Example
Solution Requirements:
| Equipment: |
1 x QTelNet FreeRide
FXO-1301 Gateway
1 x FreeRide
IP-x302 Telephone
|
| Expansion: |
Each additional
telecommuter requires a FreeRide IP-1302 or IP-2302
Telephone.
Normally
only one FreeRide FXO-1301 Gateway is needed for
each pair of lines. In cases of extremely heavy
use, a dedicated gateway may be needed for each
line to avoid contention issues.
