PLAR
Private Line Automatic
Ringdown - a term carried over from conventional
telephony - is the mechanism by which one FreeRide
device connects automatically to another. This smooths
operation by enabling two FreeRide components to
act as one unit, despite being separated geographically.
For an example,
consider the Remote
Dial Tone solution. As soon as the user picks
up their desk phone and selects the PBX (switchboard)
trunk to which our FXS-1301 gateway is connected,
the FXS automatically contacts the FXO-1301 installed
in the remote location, which in turn picks up the
local phone line. Simply by selecting the appropriate
trunk, the user gets the dial tone in the remote
city almost instantly, without the need to enter
a connection address.
Standalone Functionality
Most VoIP products
require additional equipment, such as a network
gatekeeper, to handle address translation. Not QTelNet
FreeRide products!
NAT / VPN Compatibility
FreeRide components
work with Network Address Translators (NAT's). This
type of device is often used to enable public Internet
addresses to be translated to private addresses
within the company network.
By the same token,
FreeRide components are compatible with Virtual
Private Networks (VPN's).
Distributed Dial
Plan (Unit Relocation Autocompensation)
If the FreeRide
component is moved or its IP address is changed
for any reason, other units in the dial plan are
automatically updated and full functionality is
maintained.
PBX Feature Extension
PBX features such
as conferencing, transfer, park, hold, DND (do not
disturb), page etc. can be passed from the PBX to
the FreeRide IP Telephones, and the 'voice message
waiting' indicator is also displayed on the phone.
Codec Negotiation
When receiving a
call, FreeRide components will automatically use
a compatible codec (G.711 or G.729) regardless of
their internal configuration.
MAC Security
The number of callers
can be restricted, and calls from hackers blocked,
on the basis of the FreeRide component MAC address
(an identifier unique to each individual device).
Password-Protected
Configuration Interface
Prevents unauthorized
alteration of the FreeRide configuration.
Compatible with
Time Servers
FreeRide VoIP Telephones
can synchronize their time display to a time server.
