Solutions:
Extended Extensions Prerequisite
Option
Before implementing
the Extended Extensions Solution, you must determine
if your phone system supports the Supervisory Disconnect
Tone. While many manufacturers support this function,
some do not.
To determine if you system provides the Supervisory
Disconnect Tone, make a call from extension to extension
across the phone system in question. Then listen on
one end of the call and have someone hang up the other
end. If you hear a loud busy tone played by your phone,
then your phone system does provide the Supervisory
Disconnect Tone and will work with the Extended Extensions
Solution on the previous page.
If you do
not hear the tone, you will have to use the Extended
Extension Upgrade Solution, which is outlined below.
To be able to make calls from the dial tone of either
site as well as being able to call to any of the extensions
at either site, even though your phone system does not
play the Supervisory Disconnect Tone, you simply have
to install an FXS and FXO unit at each site.
The FXS at
each site is connected to one of the trunk ports of
the phone system, while the FXO at each site is connected
to a line port.

In effect, two
toll-free extensions now link the office PBX's through the
Internet. Anyone in either office can dial an extension in the
other office from their existing desk phones without toll
charges.
Furthermore, anyone
can access a local dial tone in the other office and place
“local” calls, remotely!
