FreeRide Example Solutions:
Extended Extensions

The Scenario: Two offices in two cities, currently subject to long distance charges for inter-office calls. Each office has a PBX (switchboard).

A FreeRide FXO-1301 Gateway is installed next to the PBX in each office and connected to two of its line ports.

Each gateway is connected via its Ethernet port to broadband Internet access. Depending on the specifics of the site, this will typically be a shared resource accessed via the office network.

Extended Extensions block diagram

In effect, two toll-free extensions now link the office PBX's through the Internet. Anyone in either office can dial an extension in the other office from their existing desk phones without toll charges.

Furthermore, anyone can access a local dial tone in the other office and place “local” calls, remotely!

Important Prerequisite: Each PBX must support disconnect supervision. [more]
