BRITISH
COLUMBIA SCHOOL DISTRICT GETS CONNECTED WITH QTELNET
QTelNet
VoIP Gateways Provide School-To-School Communications
via the Internet
QTelNet
is pleased to announce completion of a Voice over Internet
Protocol (VoIP) communications installation for a British
Columbia school district, using QTelNet FreeRide™ VoIP
gateways.
Over
40 individual schools now have access to inter-school
voice communications through the schools' existing internet
connections, rather than the public telephone system.
The FreeRide installation offloaded administrative and
internal telephone traffic from local phone lines that
formerly experienced high congestion during peak usage
hours, thus freeing them up for students and parents.
In each school, a QTelNet FreeRide FXS gateway forms
a bridge between the existing PBX (switchboard) and
the Internet portal. Thanks to advanced FreeRide software
and hardware features, this arrangement provides access
to VoIP communications from the same telephones used
for the conventional public system, without requiring
complicated or unfamiliar operating procedures. The
installation takes advantage of the FreeRide gateways'
ability to operate in a manner that is completely seamless
and transparent to callers. In an attempt to solve their
telephone system bottlenecks without adding more lines
and incurring the associated ongoing costs, the school
district turned to QTelNet dealer and high speed internet
service provider Lookieloo Sales and Purchase Ltd. of
Chilliwack, B.C.
Using
QTelNet FreeRide FXO gateways to form bridges between
the local public phone system and the Internet, dial
tone from other calling districts will be extended.
This move alone will eliminate a CDN$500/month dedicated
voice line, a CDN$40/month dedicated fax line, and all
associated toll charges. QTelNet's gateways work on
a stand-alone basis and each unit has an independent
dial plan eliminating the need for an expensive gatekeeper.
QTelNet also offers a unique Distributed Dial Plan that
allows the units to be hooked to DHCP connection with
out any worries of down time due to IP address changing,
saving the cost of a static IP.
The
modest cost of the system will be recovered in the first
year of operation. Subsequent savings will go straight
to the bottom line.
